Ceramic, copper matte raku | 22 × 19 cm | 2023
From Nightmare — Surface Under
Developed from a live model, this work explores the surface as a site altered by exposure to heat and time.
The raku process produces unpredictable shifts in color and texture, where scorched tones and subtle fissures emerge across the form. Rather than a singular rupture, the surface carries traces of gradual transformation.
The face remains partially coherent, yet destabilized—its features interrupted by areas of discoloration and compression. What persists is not damage as an event, but as a condition embedded within the material itself.
