Line of Presence

A site-specific portrait exploring identity through linear construction and perceptual fragmentation; awarded at the Third National Mural Biennial for innovation in portrait representation, receiving the Biennial Sculpture.

  • Public Mural Project – Third National Mural Biennial “Shahedan-e-Shahr”, Tehran, Iran, June 2015

This mural reconsider the representation of portraiture within the context of public art. Instead of relying on conventional figurative depiction, the face is constructed through a system of linear elements that define form through absence as much as presence.

The portrait emerges from layered contours and directional lines, allowing perception to shift between abstraction and recognition. This method resists fixed representation, proposing instead a dynamic image that is completed through the viewer’s visual engagement.

By moving away from dominant visual tropes of memorial imagery, the work introduces an alternative approach to depicting identity—one that emphasizes structure, perception, and the instability of the image rather than symbolic or ideological narration.
